Teacher Bios

The Fish class includes three teachers to serve you: John Rangel, Elise Smothermon, and Kelli Weatherman. John works Monday through Thursday, Elise works Monday and Wednesday, and Kelli works Tuesday and Thursday.

John Rangel (Monday - Thursday)

My name is John Rangel and I am thrilled to be one of the teachers again in the Fish class this school year! This is my second year as a teacher at MDOCP, but my family and I have been involved with the MDOCP program for three years, when my son Liam was first enrolled in 2015 as a Penguin.

Liam (5) is now in Kindergarten at Tobias Elementary, my daughter Avery (3) is enrolled in the MDOCP program as a Frog, and my twin sons James and Dexter (11) are entering 6th grade this year.

I am happily married to my wife, Keisha, who I have known since we were friends in high school. We married in 2012 and I left my career to become a stay-at-home daddy in 2013 after Liam was born. I have had a lot of practice these past few years raising little ones, and am excited to contribute to your children's education, social development, and building a relationship with God at such an important young age.

Elise Smothermon (Monday/Wednesday)

My name is Elise Smothermon and I was born and raised in East Texas. I spent a brief time in Denton obtaining my bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. After several moves, I am very excited to finally be settled down in the Austin area with my family.

I love the arts, reading, dance, and baking. When I am not doing something related to one of those activities, or chasing my kids around the house, I am exploring the river trails and parks. I am excited to add taking care of these little ones to the activities of my life. Exploring new things has always been a passion of mine, and I'm looking forward to exploring with some new friends.

Kelli Weatherman (Tuesday/Thursday)

Hello, my name is Kelli Weatherman. This will be my second year working at MDOCP. I began in October of last year as a substitute teacher and found I just loved being with all your children. I am looking forward to having my own class this year, and all the greatness God has in store for us.

I am a Colorado native. I went to school for TV and radio broadcasting and worked in the business for a few years before I fell into Human Resources. I found that I was quite good at it and remained there until I moved to Kyle, five years ago with my family. My husband and I just celebrated our 13-year anniversary and love it here. Our boys are Tyson, 7 and Braedyn, 4. I became a stay-at-home mom with them and have loved every moment with them. I was raised in a Christian home and baptized when I was 13. I love the Lord!

Thank you, parents, for giving me the opportunity to be with your babies. I am greatly looking forward to this year!
